  1. Excellent summary of AOU. I liked it quite a bit but can’t argue with any of your complaints to be honest. It suffered greatly from being a “middle movie”. And that’s really not an excuse any more, I mean Empire Strikes Back, Two Towers, heck The Godfather Part Two managed juuuust fine being “Act 2.”

I am SO glad Mad Max is popular again! It’s really the ONLY geek IP we Australians have to be proud of. I haven’t had a chance to see it yet but will in the next two weeks hopefully. Lucky the Australian cinemas will probably show it until after freaking Christmas….like I think New Zealand is STILL showing Return of the King. 😉

It’s a question asked ad naseum right now in geek circles but I’m curious. What system would you use to run a Mad Max game?

P.S good on you for appreciating Mad Max 1 BTW very few do now. I think it’s cool for what it is, a weird little Ozploitation indie flick. I just don’t like Thunderdome however.

    • My initial thought was octaNe, it’s pretty much designed for Mad Max. Then I thought Firefly, since I like Cortex Plus and the ship rules would be a nice addition. Then I started writing my own rules, but since that’s a cop-out answer; Firefly.

  2. Well that’s about the 50th endorsement for the new Firefly I’ve heard. I’m a huuuuuge Cortex+ fan, but I wasn’t sure what the Firefly RPG would add to the system. In your opinion is there sufficient new ideas/mechanics in Firefly to justify purchase if one also has Leverage, Drame, MhR and the hackers guide?

P.S would you also give any blog posts/aP’s. On your new Mad Max rpg? I’m intensely curious to see what you develop. Or is it more of a casual project for a home group?

    • I happened to have a 1/2 off coupon that I cashed in for the Firefly book. I’m not sure if I would have picked it up otherwise. I don’t think it has anything too revolutionary, but there are some neat tweaks to the Cortex Plus formula in there. Having never played it, it’s hard for me to make a recommendation. I’d say at least check it out.

I’m not sure if the Mad Max game I’m sorta working on will ever see the light of day. If I ever finish it (been sidetracked with other projects) then maybe… But at the state its in there is only loosely connected ideas right now.
